G-Spot's game of skate went down yesterday on a above average hot Spring day. A good little turnout showed up to battle for $200. After the preliminary rounds were done we were set up for a three man finale. Dan Diamond, Andy Lane and Devin Miller went toe to toe to toe in which the crowd was overly involved. Since I was the guest judge I was making the calls on the tricks and I had a few hecklers not at all pleased with my decisions. Dan was the first to be knocked out and then Devin was on the verge to go down next but Mr. Lane couldn't pull off one of his heelflip variations and that allowed Devin to swoop in for the victory and $200 cash prize. Of course it didn't end without controversary, Devin ended it with a switch bigspin and Mr. Lane had two tries to get it done. Taking the page out of the Battle of the Berrics where you have two shots to pull off the last trick, Mr. Lane almost got it, I mean he landed on it but he did it in two parts, doing a pop shovit and pivoting the rest of the way around. We allowed him another go to make it interesting but he did the same thing again. Enter heckler #2 telling me that was a legit bigspin but while pivoting is ok, pivoting after the fact is not a bigspin. A bigspin is one motion not broken into parts and unfortunately for Mr. Lane that was the case. I told said heckler to cry somewhere else and to learn his shit properly while Mr. Lane understood what i was talking about. Mr. Lane had his chances to win but didn't manage to pull his trick which he had been nailing all day with no effort. So Devin creeps in for the loot. In the end it is amazing how everybody can do every trick even if they do it at negative speed and with disgusting style. Maybe I was a little strict at times but people needed somebody to say that wasn't good enough to win some money. I saw some good flatground all in all. Thanks go out to G-Spot for getting skaters together for a couple hours of fun.
